AFRICA DAY 2020

Africa day is celebrated on the 25th of May annually. The COVID-19 lockdown has made this year’s celebration a different one. YOUTUBE and MTV BASE AFRICA are partnering with Idris Elba to put together a 2 hour long virtual concert on the 25th of May, featuring the best and biggest African music stars, like Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Diamond PLatinumz, Seun Kuti, Adekunle Gold, Yemi Alade, Teni, Nandy, Sauti Sol, Stone boy, Fally Pupa, Rema, Angelique Kidjo. Sho Madjozi, Bobi Wine, and a host of others.
The event is titled AFRICA DAY BENEFIT CONCERT AT HOME, and it is a fundraiser to help children and families in Africa affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Funds will go to the WORLD FOOD PROGRAM and UNICEF.

It promises to be an exciting event as it will be hosted by IDRIS ELBA himself, who says, “Taking a moment to shine a light on African arts to benefit the African homeland and its people. A continent of this size should find a way to dig deep and stand up for one another at a time like this. It’s important for the future and history will not forget”.

It will stream on the MTV BASE Africa channel on YOUTUBE.
Other presenters include TREVOR NOAH, MISS UNIVERSE ZOZIBINI TUNZI, AND SEAN PAUL.
The benefit concert will be made available after Africa day to continue encouraging organizations and individuals to contribute towards fundraising through the World Food Program and UNICEF campaign website.
